The Needs of Nakuru
Options to Help
In the country of Kenya there are 1.2 million children who have been orphaned by AIDS. And of the 1.5 million people who are living with AIDS in Kenya, 180,000 are children.  Many of these children make their home in the slums of Kaptembwa, Ronda, Mwariki, Baruti, and Paul Machanga which are part of Nakuru City.  AIDS is a pandemic in Nakuru and there's no end in sight.  To make matters worse, many young girls enter the sex trade for survival which just further spreads the disease.  Child trafficking is rampant.

Nakuru West was also one of the areas most affected by tribal clashes in 1992-1997 and by the post election violence in 2007-2008 which left many people displaced and scattered.  The tension, forced migration and destruction of life in these conflicts devastated the working class.  Many capable family members were killed leaving widows and more orphans.

Luke 19:10 says that Jesus "came to seek and to save what was lost."  While other ministries have closed their doors, the House of Power Center is seeing lost souls respond to the Gospel.  The sick are being healed and the bound, set free.  This church body worships God whole-heartedly and stays focused on winning others to Christ.  They model how to care for one another as Christ cared for us and place their lives under the authority of God's word.  Above all else, they teach believers to pursue an intimate relationship with God and to make Him known to others.  To learn more about how you can help in Nakuru, click on the Partner With Us button on the left.

Nakuru lacks employment opportunities, clean water and basic services such as health care and education.  Hopelessness without Christ leads to all kinds of coping mechanisms.  Alcoholism and drug abuse are commonplace.  All manner of sexual outlets are for sale.  Children are affected the most--either directly or indirectly.
